Mummer of the Year 2000
December 14th, 2000 saw the annual Mummer's Christmas Dinner and Mummer of the Year award ceremony. Mummer of the Year is awarded to a Mummer in recognition of outstanding performance / achievement (or any arbitrary reason) over the year. It is the task of the outgoing MOY to determine the new MOY. There is a ballot, but it is only used to give ideas and, in any case, most of the Mummers vote for themselves. Mummer of the Year 2000 was awarded to Malcolm for his continual presence at all performances and for duty, over and above, in mending Dick's head after the accident so that we had a Wild Horse for the next performance. Malcolm also mended other items of equipment and assisted other local mumming sides - although that doesn't really count! Here is Malcolm with the MOY trophy 'Dick's Horn': MOY 2000 - Malcolm Entertainment ensued and this saw the first airing of "The Twelve Beers of Christmas" a tribute to Steve, landlord of the Spinner, for all the excellent ales he has served this year. Some of the ladies didn't seem to like this but didn't realise that it was conceived primarily by my wife, with a little help from John and myself. We sing "The Twelve Days of Christmas" during carol singing in the Spinner and accompany it with actions. The full words to "The Twelve Beers of Christmas" can be found here. Some of the Mummers (well Mark and Nigel ) took it upon themselves to perform actions to the new words - the cleanest of which can be seen below: Nigel and Mark doing Five Ridley's Rings !!
And a few pictures from the event:
And finally - there is always time to dream that one year it could be you.....
